Have you ever felt this way? Almost mid sentence, you just feel as if you can’t write another word. Perhaps you’ve lost the thread of your story? Or perhaps you’ve lost belief in what you’re doing? When I feel this way, I simply tell myself it’s like running a marathon.
When I ran the San Francisco Marathon, I rested often at the refreshment tables, attuned my ears to the cheering crowd, and just put one foot in front of the other. In writing, when I hit the wall, I do pretty much the same.
- I take a break–a walk in nature;
- I call a friend for support–they cheer me on;
- I put one word in front of another–it’s the only way to get to the finishing line.
I also like to read the quote below, because it helps me to know that every time I move through a block, I come out stronger.
